Ben's Page
Journal #1 (1-56)
The book starts off in the perspective of Christopher, a 15 year old autistic boy, who is looking at Wellington (Mrs.Shears dog) dead on her lawn. Christopher just sits there with Wellington until Mrs.Shears sees him and runs out of her house yelling and cursing. She then calls the police, when the police arrive he tries to talk to Christopher but Christopher gets overwhelmed with questions. The police officer tries to pick Christopher up because Christopher decided to lay down so Christopher hits him because he does not like being picked up. This makes Christopher get arrested so he gets taken down to the police station. Christopher's dad eventually comes to get him. After he is released Christopher decides he is going to find who killed Wellington even though his dad doesn't want him too. He then proceeds to go around the block asking people questions about Wellington's death. In the end of him walking around he decides the prime suspect is Mr. Shears. I think Christopher is very intelligent and thinks logically. He already knows quiet a few facts about murder and other interesting things. Another thing about Christopher is he loves math and science, though he has trouble with human emotions and facial expressions. Christopher's mother has passed away, he talkes about it quiet a bit but doesn't really say how he feels about it, he says how his dad feels and reacts but not his own emotions. Though you can see Christopher is very smart he doesn't seem to have much of an imagination, in his eyes everything must be logical. That is why so far this book has been very intresting and different.
Journal #2 (57-112)
This part of the book is rather interesting because you really see how Christopher's autism affects his way of thinking. You see this a lot when he gets told about his mother sleeping with Mr.Shears. Christopher doesn't really react, he just says it doesn't matter because it happened awhile ago. Most people would be upset or shocked if they found out that their mother had cheated on their father. The part of the book is very interesting because we see new characters and see more of Christopher and how he thinks. (Like most of the book every second chapter is a little thing that he wants to talk about ex: Sherlock Holmes, A level maths). We also see more of what his father is like and more of what his mother was like. The thing we also see is his father hit him, but that is because he lost his temper when he found Christopher's book on the kitchen table. The book had all of Christopher's conversations with people etc. Christopher's dad got mad because in the book there was him talking with Mrs.Alexander about the death of Wellington, as well as when he finds out his mother cheated on his father. After he gets hit his father immediately apologizes and brings him to the zoo and looks after him. In all this was a very interesting section of the book with a lot of character development.
