Response to Review

I read the review and I have to say it doesn't go in much detail about any of the book. It seems like he didn't really read the book. His pros are pretty vague and could apply to many mystery books. Though he does add in humor and I see no humor in this book it is all very serious. The parts where there could be comedy are when Christopher has issues because of his disability which laughing at is just cruel. In the section guide review it only says things that happened at the beginning which makes me think this person only read the beginning then assumed the rest of the book. Like how it only says and eventually finds the killer, not much detail and doesn't say how he did it. This book did have cons however, this man lists none. Here is my review for the book:

Pros:
Interesting book
Good plot
Surprises

Cons:
Vague description of setting
Character cannot tell emotions apart so we can only assume how other characters are feeling

Guide Review
This book is in the perspective of a 15 year old autistic boy named Christopher Boone who sees the world very differently from the rest of us. This book starts us off right in the action with the death of a neighbors dog. Christopher decides to find who killed it. We see Christopher unravel this mystery throughout the book where the chapters are organized in prime numbers. In the book we see how Christopher thinks with every second chapter being about something he likes whether it be mathematics or Sherlock Holmes. In all this book is a great read and I recommend you read it!

Journal #4 (168-224)

This was a very big part of the book, this carries on from where it left off with Christopher at the train station. Here Christopher has his ticket and is going to London to see his mother because he is afraid of his father now. All of this is going on of course because he doesn't trust his father due to the fact that he stabbed a dog and lied to him about his mother being dead. Christopher eventually makes it to his mothers street who is walking home sees him and quickly recognizes him. Her and Roger (Mr.Shears) then bring him home. Christopher's father finds out about this and then proceeds to show up at 2 am and try to make Christopher come home with him. Christopher declines and stays with his mom for awhile. Though at the end of book Christopher ends up back with his father after he passes his A level maths. Then it shows a bunch of mathematical questions and answers. I believe it was a happy ending to a very, very....very messed up book. It also shows even after someone lies to you, you can still learn to trust them again. With this I think the theme is either Things are not as they seem, or You can always learn to trust someone again.

Journal 4

Now looking at the final section of the book, a lot happens. Christopher decides to go to London to see his mother. The whole process of getting to London was very stressful for him but he got there, and he found his mother. When he got there, his father came and begged him to come back but he didn’t want to. Now with Roger, things started getting out of hand so Christopher and his mother ended up coming back to his father’s house. Luckily for Christopher he got to write his A-Level exam even though his mother postponed it to next year. So after being asked to move out of his father’s house, he and his mother moved into a room in a brick house that he’s not very fond of. Meanwhile, his father is trying to regain Christopher’s trust so he buys him a two-month-old golden retriever that Christopher names Sandy. Christopher ends up making some life goals he thinks are all obtainable because he went to London all by himself, he figured out who killed Wellington, he found his mother, he was brave and he wrote a book. I really liked this book because it was very different and even though the format of the book was a little weird it did show realistic problems in life and that it is possible, with time, to repair or recover from these problems. It also shows that people with disabilities can strive and prove themselves to be more.

Journal #2

In the Current pages of the book (pg 56-112), Christopher has been hanging out with Ms.Alexandra a lot more, thinking of her less as a stranger. Then Chris and Ms.Alexandra took a walk in the park and exchanged information. Chris learnt His mother was having an affair with Mr.Shears and left his father for him. Christoper wrote his encountered conversation with Ms.Alexandra in his book and when he arrived home, it was left on the table because Christopher was too interested in his Blue Planet video. His father came home and read the book as he saw laying on the table and become furious. His father grabbed a hold of Christopher with a tight grip and Christopher was taken by surprise but retaliated to his action twice with punches. His father at the next day while Christopher was at school had hidden his book in a different location and Christopher decided to investigate. Searching his father's room he found his book in his closet in his shirt box, along with unopened envelopes addressed to Christoper, his father returned home from work. When his father calls his name, he doesn't answer: Christopher doesn't want him to know he's in his room. Instead takes the envelope into his room and hides it under the mattress before heading downstairs. His father makes him dinner and they're very nice to each other while they eat. Then Christopher goes back to his room, shuts the door, and takes out the envelope and begins to read it.

Journal 3

In this part of the novel Christopher has just found a letter when he was looking for his book that his father had hidden. The letter was from his mother talking about her new job and apartment that she’s moved into with a man named Roger who I’m guessing is Mr. Shears. She also says she hasn't received any letters from Christopher and that she loves him very much. On the envelope it said ‘16th of October 1997’ which was eighteen months after his mother had died. We can see now that his mother is in fact still alive unlike what his father told him. In the rest of her letters she explains more about how she felt before she left. Shegave a few examples like at the store when Christopher acted up, or at supper once when he broke her toes by throwing the cutting board. Christopher’s father never really pitied her though. I can understand why his father thought she was selfish but, if Christopher really is calmer around his father than with hismother, then I think it’s better for him. That way, it will prevent him from having more outbursts. As he read more letters he started getting sick because it finally hit him and eventually he passed out. His father then found him and theletters and started to cry. After, his father confessed to killing Wellington when he attacked him after an argument him and Mrs. Shears had. Christopher was absolutely appalled and loses all trust in his father. He then decided to stayin the garden. Clearly, in this section of the book many issues we once knew in the beginning, had completely turned around, making things difficult between Christopher and his father.

Journal #4

Christopher had become scared of his father and comes to the decision he can no longer live with his father. Christopher packs up his specail food box, Toby and takes his dad's "Cash Card", and begins a mission to his mother's house. He has her adress memorized (451c Chapter Road, London NW2 5NG) along with her phone number(0208 887 8907). The only way Christopher can get to his mother is by taking the train to London, having no clue what he is doing, having to ask for directions everywhere. A police officer had approched Christopher asking if he is lost, and replies "I'm not" then wonders off, As christopher's train arrives he buys a ticket and begins to board it and suddenly feeling a hand on his shoulder saying "There you are Christopher, Your dad is looking for you" and the train suddenly began to move and christopher had to pee so he went to the washroom and hid there, and the train came to a stop and the police officer had lost him. They had reached london and a gate man had saw christopher and told him an officer was looking for him and christopher had said "He knows" and the Gate man had left to inform he had found the officer and told chris to stay but instead continued walking. An imformation booth had appeared and chris asked where "451c Chapter Road, London NW2 5NG" and the lady running the booth points him towards a "Willesden junction tube" and that should lead him to his mother's adress.

Journal #3

(Pg 112-168) Christopher had begun to read more letters from his mother when his dad was away at work. He counted 43 letters in totaled and these were written after her so called "Death" Christopher comes to the conclusion after reading 4-5 letters that she is still alive and that his father had lied to him about her. Christopher begins to feel very sick and passes out; while he is passed out he had puked on himself. When he regains consciousness his father had returned home from work, calling out his name. Enter his room and finds Christopher curled up in a ball groaning while his father is mad saying "Christopher, What the hell are you doing?" and notices Christopher had read the letters and begins to panic. after awhile he finally said "It was for your own good Christopher, Thought it was better if you didn’t know, I was going to show you when you were older" (page 114) Christopher's father begins to clean him up from all his puke and foul smell by running a bath and changing him into his jumper, while dealing with Christopher’s inability to reply due to being in shock. Christopher's father proclaims he will from now become honest with him, sharing his secret that he had killed wellington. He began to talk about how Ms.Shears would stay with Christopher and his father and cook nice home cook meals then one day Ms.Shears and His Father had argued about how she cared about the dog more than him and his jealousy lead to the death of Wellington.

Journal 2

In this section of the book Christopher is still trying to figure out who killed Mrs. Shears' dog, Wellington. Christopher seems to be having a lot of Black Days too (four yellow cars). And despite his father banning him from mentioning Mr. Shears, Christopher figures 'well he never said anything about outside of the house' so when he runs into Mrs. Alexander at the shop, he mentions him and Mrs. Alexander explains to Christopher that his mother and Mr. Shears were having an affair. That explains why Christopher's father hates Mr. Shears therefore causing the ban on his being mentioned. He is also still continuing with his white lies. When he goes to talk to Siobhan I find it interesting the way he shows no emotion towards the news of his mothers unfaithfulness just because his 'Mother is dead. And because Mr. Shears isn't around anymore.' so he would be feeling 'sad about something that isn't real and doesn't exist. And that would be stupid.' Another interesting thing is the way he uses his memory as a film and rewinds, fast forwards and pauses like when he remembered his mother disappearing in the water. When Christopher's father found his book, he got very angry and eventually he grabbed Christopher which doesn't sit well with him. One thing led to another and all of a sudden there was blood and a pain in his head. So, whilst still trying to investigate the murder of Wellington, it seems Christopher has discovered a few mysteries he hadn't planned on. Not that it's a big deal to him.

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon - Book Review

http://bestsellers.about.com/od/fictionreviews/gr/dog_night_r.htm

Journal Entry 2

Journal #3 113-168

This is a section of the book where a lot of the conflict gets resolved but also new conflict arises. Christopher learns who killed the dog. It was his father, which horrified him and made him lose his trust completely. He also finds out his mother is still alive and reads a lot of the letters from her. She has moved to Londom with a man named Roger. I am assuming it is Mr.Shears but it does not say directly, it implies it with things like how Mr.Boone (Christopher's dad) used to spend a lot of time with Eileen, who we find out is Mrs.Shears. I am guessing Roger is Mr.Shears because Christopher's mother had an affair with Mr.Shears as well. Another part of the story that happens is Christopher runs away, he decides that his hime isn't safe enough anymore and for a night hides outside. The next day he starts thinking of where to go because he doesn't feel safe at home. After awhile he decides he will go stay with his mother. The problem with this is that she lives in London, so Christopher starts planning out how to get there. He decides on taking the train and starts making his way to the train station. After sitting at the train station for awhile he gets his ticket and goes on the train. While on the train a police officer catches up with him and tells him that his father is at the station and worried about him, as well that he will be bringing him to the station to see his father but then the train starts so they have to stay on it. In all this was a very intresting section with a lot of changes in the characters. Some going from the most trust worthy characters to the least.
